About Bath

Bath is a very special place. Millions of visitors flock to Bath each year to enjoy unrivalled sightseeing, shopping, culture and study opportunities. The food is good too; Bath boasts award winning restaurants, quaint tearooms and welcoming cosy pubs.

The city was designated a World Heritage Site in 1987 by UNESCO thanks to its breathtaking Roman Baths, unique 18th Century Georgian Architecture and beautiful surrounding landscape of green, wooded hillsides making for breathtaking vistas.

Bath’s natural hot springs, which inspired the Roman Baths to be built 2000 years ago, still offer abundant opportunities for spa and relaxation today at the super modern Thermae Bath Spa

The incredible combination of golden stone architecture set against striking countryside, and natural thermal waters in which to immerse yourself, make Bath one of the most romantic cities in the world.

Bath is the perfect base to explore the West Country (including Stonehenge, Bristol, Cardiff and the Cotswolds). It is also only 100 miles west of London (90 minutes by train).

Known as the "City of Festivals", Bath boasts a packed programme of festivals each year, offering a wonderful mix of music, literature, entertainment and arts events to suit all tastes (see 2019 Calendar of Events).

During November and December each year, shoppers enjoy the charmingly atmospheric Bath Christmas Market. More than 130 traditional wooden chalets adorn the streets: each one offering unique, handmade and unusual gifts, decorations and food items – everything you will need for the perfect Christmas celebration!
