Jane Austen is perhaps the best known and best loved of Bath’s many famous residents. Two of her novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, were largely set in Bath.
Pride and Prejudice Car Tour
Join one of our Jane Austen specialist guides to see some of the locations used by the BBC in their production of “Pride and Prejudice” (1995). We’ll take you out to the picturesque Cotswold village of Lacock, a 35 minute drive from Bath, which was used by the BBC as a setting for Meryton.
Whilst in Lacock, you might want to visit Lacock Abbey, used in the filming of some of the Harry Potter movies. Also, not far from Lacock is Stonehenge.

Chawton (86 miles from Bath):
the lovely village of Chawton where Jane lived for the last 8 years of her life. The house, from which most of her major work was published, is today a museum to her life and work.
Steventon (68 miles from Bath):
the village where Jane was born and grew up. The church, where her father was rector, still stands.
Winchester (69 miles from Bath):
Jane’s final resting place. She is buried in Winchester cathedral where there is a simple plaque that marks her burial and a glorious window that was later dedicated to her.
Stourhead, Wiltshire (25 miles from Bath):
this 18th century landscaped garden was featured in the 2005 production of “Pride and Prejudice”. Its enchanting Temple of Apollo, set above the tranquil lake, was the scene for Darcy’s first and futile proposal to Lizzy...
